What You Can Expect From An Exterior Paint Job.

Exterior paint doesn't fail because of the paint — it fails because of the prep underneath it. Here's everything we do, in order, to make sure your next repaint outlasts what most contractors leave behind.

What exterior painting covers

We paint every exterior surface on the home: wood clapboard, HardiPlank and fiber-cement siding, board-and-batten, cedar shake, stucco, brick (where specified), trim, fascia, soffits, window casings, shutters, doors, porch ceilings, columns, railings, decks (paint or stain), and fences. We price it line-by-line so you can see what's included and where you might scale back.

Our 6-step full-prep protocol

  1. Soft-wash or power-wash. Every exterior surface gets cleaned of dirt, pollen, mildew, moss, chalking, and oxidation before any prep tool touches the wood. This is the biggest single reason cheap paint jobs peel — they're painted over contamination.
  2. Scrape & sand. Every bit of loose or failing paint hand-scraped off. Edges feathered smooth with sanding so the new paint lays down flat, not in visible ridges.
  3. Wood repair & spot-prime. Rotted trim, fascia, and siding sections replaced with like-for-like material. All bare wood and every spot-primed area gets a high-adhesion primer before topcoat.
  4. Caulk every gap. Every siding-to-trim seam, window frame, door frame, corner board, and gap gets a tight bead of exterior-grade caulk. Keeps water out and makes the lines look crisp.
  5. Two full coats. Premium paint applied with brush and roller for proper film thickness, with back-brushing to work the paint into the grain. Two full coats — never one heavy coat.
  6. Final walk-through. We walk the property with you before calling it done. Anything you flag gets touched up the same day.

Paint brands we use

Premium exterior brands only: Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Sikkens for cedar shake and natural-wood stains, Cabot for decks, and California Paints. No "contractor grade" jug paint — the kind that looks great for one season then chalks and fades.

Best time to paint in New England

The ideal window is April through October. Surface temperatures need to stay consistently above 50°F and humidity low enough for the paint to cure. We book the summer calendar by May — so if you're planning a 2026 exterior, it pays to get on the schedule early.

Typical timeline & price guidance

A typical 2,500 sq-ft home takes 5–10 working days. Larger estates and cedar shake homes run 2–3 weeks. Full exterior repaints in Connecticut and New York typically run $4,500–$14,500 depending on home size, stories, trim detail, prep condition, and paint grade. Gold Coast and estate projects can go higher. Every estimate is written and itemized.

Written workmanship warranty

Every exterior project comes with a written workmanship warranty in your contract. If any paint failure is attributable to our work — peeling, cracking, flaking due to prep or application — we come back and fix it at no charge. The warranty is transferable if you sell the home.
